ATEQ is Available to Provide Consulting and Leak Testers For Medical Packaging Leak Testing Applications.

While the list is nearly endless, there are some specific containers most commonly used in the medical packaging industry including:

    • Pill containers
    • Liquid medicine bottles
    • Plastic Caps
    • Blister Packs
    • Medical device sachets

It is important that medical packaging does not leak because if air or moisture gets into the packaging, the contents may become compromised by becoming spoiled-rendering them ineffective, or contaminated with bacteria.

If the packaging material is rigid, a standard or differential pressure decay leak tester can be used to perform a leak test in the packaging by pressurizing the package opening and looking for a drop in pressure. The caps to the packaging can also be leak tested to make sure there are no manufacturing decays that could cause a leak. ATEQ’s Ioniq electrical leak tester is a good option for testing plastics caps quickly. If a final assembly leak test is needed to test the food container with the cap on, an indirect leak test can be used to leak test the sealed package into a chamber.

When leak testing food packaging that is a flexible material, like plastic sachet packaging around a syringe, or a bottle of medicine, it can be a bit more tricky to test. Leak testing medical packages requires two parts-testing for package integrity and seal strength. Medical bags and pouches can be batch tested using a destructive burst leak test to make sure they can hold a given pressure. A chamber test can be used as a non-destructive leak test to test sealed flexible medical packages or bottle seals by putting the test item in a custom chamber fixture. The chamber is pressurized or evacuated for a vacuum test and tested for pressure/vacuum decay to find leaks. A seal integrity test can be performed by putting the bag between two restraining plates and a pressure decay test can be performed.

ATEQ has developed solutions for hundreds of different packaging leak testing applications for well known manufacturers over the last 40 years.  Whether you are leak testing a plastic medical bag, pill bottle, blister pack, pacemaker, or a washing machine, ATEQ can work with you to provide efficient leak and flow testers and develop integrated packaging production leak and flow testing solutions.
