ATEQ is Available to Provide Consulting and Leak Testers For GPS Leak Testing Applications.
GPS, or the Global Positioning System, is a global navigation GNSS satellite system that provides location, velocity and time synchronization. GPS is made up of a system of satellites in space, Earth-based monitor stations and GPS receivers and transmitters in user equipment. These systems work together using trilateration to calculate location, velocity and elevation, from satellite signals and outputting the information to user GPS equipment.
A GPS tracker has the following main components that are contained with a housing.
- GPS receiver or GNSS receiver
- GPS Data Transmission mechanism
- GPS tracker Microcontroller (or a host)
- Antenna system
- Power supply system
Global Positioning System modules have become a standard feature in many consumer electronic devices and vehicles. Because there are so many sensitive, delicate components within a GPS module, it is important that the GPS module housing does not leak. Leaking GPS covers compromises the integrity of the electronics, antenna and circuit boards contained in the module. A small hole or crack within the plastic GPS housing could let dust or moisture into the module.
These GPS module covers require leak testing to be sure leak rate is below the manufacturer-specified leak rate. The GPS cover can be leak tested before and after modules is completely assembled. If there is an opening in the GPS cover after the housing is manufactured, a direct differential pressure decay test can be used to pressurize the cover’s opening to look for a drop in test pressure compared to a reference part. At the end of assembly, an indirect ingress leak test can be used to test the fully sealed module by putting the GPS module into a chamber and putting pressure or vacuum to the chamber to look for a change in chamber pressure.
